The reason for death has not yet been made public.
In response to the sad news, The Clean’s US record company, Merge Records, released the following statement: “As a founding member of the Clean, together with his brother, David, and Robert Scott, Hamish crafted one of the most significant and enduring collections of work in rock music.
Hamish was a treat to watch perform as a drummer because of his dynamic, instantly recognizable technique and understated strength.
In addition to being a singer, guitarist, and songwriter for the Clean and the Mad Scene, which he co-founded with Lisa Siegel, Hamish was one of the most colorful and inventive musicians we have had the pleasure of working with.
Hamish was also a skilled visual artist, and numerous record jackets include his imaginative illustrations.

The police announced that Kilgour’s body had been found on December 6, 2022.
His albums All of It and Nothing and Finklestein are among the most well-known.
As a member of his band The Clean, he was inducted into the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame and awarded the Album Cover of the Year.
