American writer, educator, and news executive Jerry Ceppos passed away yesterday at the age of 75. According to his wife, sepsis is what caused his death.
Jerry was a professor in addition to being a journalist. Ceppos founded a news service as dean of Louisiana State University’s Manship School of Mass Communication to fill the gap created by the reduction of major news sources, hiring student journalists to cover state government, and carrying out investigative projects.
He suggested that they look at homicides that the Ku Klux Klan committed during the civil rights movement but were never solved. In addition, 90 news organizations in Louisiana and Mississippi have

Jerry Ceppos’ wife is Karen Ceppos. Jerry began a long career with Knight Newspapers and later Knight Ridder in 1972 when he moved to the South to work as an editor at The Miami Herald. Marcie Ersoff, a Herald coworker, introduced Ceppos to Karen, her younger sister.
They married in 1982 and have two children, Matthew and Robin. The editor’s wife announced his passing and gave the cause of death.
Marcie is heartbroken by her loyal husband’s passing. The 40-year union seems to have broken down. Marcie wants his close friends and relatives to come to his funeral so they can say their final goodbyes.
